Future challenges for Europe

I was asked to describe in 5 minutes how we can help to overcome the challenges facing Europe.
Not an easy task, but it really is my firm belief that technology can play a big part in addressing the challenges of demography, productivity and competitiveness facing us at present. More specifically, Microsoft’s role as an enabler for others by providing the platforms for them to build products on is key. In Europe, we don’t have natural resources or a huge population to fall back on, so we have to innovate to be ahead of the curve. To do so we need to unlock human potential, and that’s where we feel we have a big part to play, especially in our work with SMEs, helping them overcome teething problems and establish themselves and perhaps grow into the next Siemens or Nokia!
